For the Health of…

Several in our community are ill this week. Remember to send a message of prayer and support. Mary Konfederak, Lisa Holak (care of John and Loraine Holak), Mr. John Nicholas, Mrs. Anna Techansoff and Dimitri and Naomi Syros.

Community Needs

Many in our parish are laboring under great financial need and stress. These trying times give us all an opportunity to be a Good Samaritan. Recently, the Good Samaritan Fund has helped families purchase food, necessary medicine and other needful items of daily life. Please consider a donation to help the families of our parish survive this severe down turn in the economy. Our families need your help. Thank you all for your generosity. Your help at this time is very much appreciated by all who have been helped.

Missions and Charities

In 2007 the Church Council resolved to distribute the Missions and Charities collection to the Orthodox Orphanage in Guatemala (for the various needs of the resident Orphans), the Orthodox Project in Mexico City (for building one room dwellings for the poor), and to the Sarasota County Food Pantry which supplies the Venice area. In November of 2008 the Church Council will again determine how to disperse this year’s Missions and Charities collections. We look forward to any suggestions you may have with regard to the Missions and Charities dispersal for 2008.

Christmas Boutique

It’s that time again – time for planning the Christmas Boutique. The Christmas Boutique is scheduled for Saturday, December 6th. Begin to think about what you can donate to the sale and we will be giving you more details as the sale date approaches.

Congratulations!

Happy birthday wishes to Mr. Fred Marandiuk (October 25). Many, Many Years!

The Freedom of Giving

“Be free, and let God’s light shine. To be free of all things and enslaved by nothing we must act as someone living in a room cluttered by acquisitions of the past. Say: What don’t I need? What things are a nuisance? Take them and give them to God. Get rid of hindrances. But this must not be a chance to pride ourselves on our generosity, because we have merely given to God what belongs to the dustbin. Then as other things surface, we must give them to God until only the essentials remain. We must gradually acquire this mastery: to give without regret, daringly, with joy. But we can let go only if we do not fear annihilation. We must let go of our self-centeredness.” From: “This Holy Man, Impressions of Metropolitan Anthony” By Gillian Crow
