Bakery News

The Bake Team has succeeded over the last three weeks in preparing over 500 apricot, poppy-seed and nut rolls with the goal approaching 1000 rolls since January, all to be sold before Easter. It is probable that rolls will also be prepared next week on the regular Wednesday/Thursday schedule. Pascha Bread preparation will begin next week and it is anticipated that as many as 150 Pascha Breads will be baked before March 30th. A huge thank you to the Bake Team for their extraordinary effort!!

We will be needing all the help we can get on March 30th for the final push on sales and distribution day. Please see Marie Maruskin or our Administrator to schedule a time when you can help! Thanks again to everyone who has participated in any way in making The Bakery Project such a great success.

Bakers Gather Once Again

Our Team of Bakers and Bakers Helpers gathered again this week and last week to replenish the ever popular Nut, Poppy-Seed and Apricot Rolls. These rolls go as fast as we can make them with orders and requests piling up daily. We will be preparing ingredients and baking rolls again next week on Wednesday and Thursday (March 3 and 4) as well as the following week (March 10 and 11). We have had many new faces appear to help on this important project but we still need to see you. Please plan to gather with us to do this worthwhile work, talk with our Administrator or Marie Maruskin to schedule a time to participate. Thank you all for your dedication to this project!! Pierogi, Rolls, and Stuffed Cabbage are available now!!

Haiti Agape Flights Update

Rummage and Bake Sale raises nearly $10K

Thank you to everyone who participated in any way to make our 2010 Annual Rummage and Bake Sale such a success. Receipts from the sale have surpassed our greatest expectations and currently stand at $ 9,715.74! That is 60% over the 2009 Rummage and Bake Sale total. Incredible! Thank you all so very much for your hard work and participation as we continue to reach out to the Venice community! Thank you and Many Years!

It’s time to get serious about your rummage sale items. Please consider what you might donate and plan on getting your donations to church on Monday, February 8th. Also please take the enclosed Rummage Sale flyer and post it at your association building, a favorite restaurant, and/or place of business to give us that extra bit of advertising we need. We are looking forward to another successful Rummage and Bake Sale this year – thanks for all your help!!

A Meatfare Dinner Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who participated in any way in the 2010 Annual Meatfare Dinner. Particular thanks go to Lynne Morris and George and Arelia Jacobs, to Stacey Gounaris of Gold Rush Barbeque and Angelo’s Deli and Restaurant for their donation of food items and their continued support and hard work. Also a huge thank you to the people of the United Church of Christ who so graciously allowed us to use their kitchen facilities and hall. The Meatfare Dinner brought in $2,225.00. Most of all thank you to everyone who joined us in fellowship and supported this important fundraiser!

Agape Flights receives gifts from Holy Spirit Church

On Tuesday February 2nd a delegation from Holy Spirit Church delivered a check to Agape Flights which included donations from our Community given in the special missions and charities offering over the previous three Sundays. Your gracious generosity was once again demonstrated by your works and a check was presented to Agape Flights for $1,500.00 to go directly for aid to the Haitian earthquake victims. We heard many harrowing stories of survival and heroic attempts to help those in need. The flight hangar was filled with food, medicine, and items of every imaginable description and people were working hand to hand to prepare these items for direct shipment to Haiti. The director of Agape Flights said that because of their previous work in Haiti they had been some of the earliest and most effective help to the people “on the ground” because they already knew how to get in and out of the air strips and around the country without bureaucratic complication. We are tentatively planning another opportunity to participate in this offering to Haiti in the near future. Thank you everyone who donated and for all your prayers. We really are making life easier for those who have been hurt so badly!

Prepare for Rummage and Bake Sale this week!

This is the week to prepare for the much anticipated 2010 Rummage and Bake Sale!! We will be working all week to pick up your donations and organize those you bring in. Monday through Wednesday the church will be open from 10 am until 3 pm to receive your donations. On Thursday and Friday the church will be open from 9 am until 5 pm to receive your donations. Sale day is February 13th. Obviously, we need workers to help receive and organize the sale items ahead of time and everyone is invited to participate. If you have very large items that need to be picked up please make arrangements with our Administrator no later than Tuesday the 9th – we will be picking large items up on Wednesday the 10th. If you are unable to get your donation to church during the hours shown above please call 941-257-8901 or 516-376-5596 to make other arrangements. Please plan to participate as we prepare for sale day and to help on Saturday the 13th. Thank you for your donations and all of your hard work!

Annual Meatfare Dinner

Please plan for our 2010 Annual Meatfare Dinner on Sunday, January 31st immediately following services. All the meat and trimmings you can eat for a donation of only $15.00 per person. The buffet style dinner will be held across the street at the Church Hall of the United Church of Christ. Tickets and reservations are required as seating and dinner space for only 100 is available. Please see Lea Ann Bochnak or our Administrator to RSVP. Please plan to join us for this celebration in anticipation of the Great Fast!
