This week the Growth Committee met with Van Con Construction and Chuck Kinter to examine some “conceptual ideas” for modernization and improvement of the 700 Shamrock Blvd. Property. The Growth Committee asked Van Con to provide an analysis of the property with the following primary goal in mind – to provide functional and attractive worship, dining, and project areas utilizing every possible square foot of space. With this primary goal in mind we also asked for their ideas concerning the following essential elements of an improvement and modernization program, 1) additional seating during worship services, 2) additional/reallocation of space for kitchen and project growth, 3) a parking plan to meet Sarasota County requirements, 4) and a church building and entrance which reflects our invitation to all people to come and worship Jesus Christ. Many other important factors were also considered in modernization. Van Con‟s presentation was very comprehensive, though conceptual in detail, leaving many issues to be considered. The Growth Committee is currently preparing questions and comments concerning Van Con‟s analysis. In addition, Marie Maruskin of the Growth Committee prepared and sent a letter to Bishop Frank Dewane of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Venice, concerning whether or not their intent is to sell the property on Englewood Road and if so how could Holy Spirit Church begin discussions with them concerning the property. We will report the results of this enquiry when available. The Growth Committee is continuing its work to define and refine every aspect of the mandate given to it by the Church Council in January. Please remember the Committee in your prayers as we seek God‟s Guidance in every phase of our work.
